My Soul-Mate

Misty and MeIf you know me, you know I am not a fan of cheesy facebook statuses where people talk about how wonderful their spouse and children are. So put on your seatbelt because I am about to blog about the most wonderful person in my life. I hope it is not cheesy, but I know it probably will be. Do know, however, this blog is very sincere.

Today is my wife’s birthday.

I am not going to tell you how old she is. To be honest, I am not really sure myself and it really doesn’t matter because when I look at Misty, I still see her as the 20 year old bride I married on May 15, 1987. In my mind she has not changed at all. She is still the most beautiful girl in the world. The other picture of her I always have in my mind is her junior class picture. She was 16, had on a purple dress and a summer tan. She is still my high-school sweetheart. Our first date was in November, 1981. We went to a Mexican restaurant and a Vanderbilt basketball game. Last May 15th we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, but as you can see, we have been a couple for 31 years. Quite a feat, since she is still only 20 years old.

Ever since we started dating she knew I felt called into ministry. She has stood beside me every step of the way. She is my biggest fan and greatest encouragement.

Misty’s motivational gift is service. She prefers to be behind the scenes and to go unnoticed.

But she is also a “kid magnet.” Children naturally flock to her. Misty has always been involved in children’s ministry, and for the last 4 years she has worked full-time as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant. It is difficult to go anywhere in town without kids running up to her to give her a hug.

The two kids who love her the most are Katherine and Zachary. Misty is the perfect mom. She is the glue that holds our family together.

AND, she likes to cook!

I like to eat.

We were made for each other.

I really don’t know what I would do without my soul mate. We have spent a life together and we have built a life together. If I had to do it over again, I would.

So, Happy Birthday Misty!

I love you.

I hope that wasn’t to cheesy.

Finally, if you know Misty, please feel free to comment here and wish her a happy birthday.

  2. Happy Birthday Misty, I know I haven’t seen you in years, however Kevin has said it perfectly!! You are an awesome person and…”Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Misty, Happy Birthday to you and many more”, love from the Kariott’s.

  3. Happy Birthday, Misty! I remember those days when you two started dating! That makes me feel old but since you are only 20, it helps! Sounds like you might have summers free and I was wondering if you’d be interested in a mission trip to Spain to help with English Camp. I’d love to have you or you and Kevin and the kids on the team. Dates are June 22nd through July 20th for the month long program or June 29th through July 13th for the 2 week program.
